The Safe City Project has officially launched the electronic challan (e-challan) system in Sargodha, marking another major step toward modernizing traffic management and improving road safety in Punjab. The initiative was rolled out on Monday and is designed to ensure stricter enforcement of traffic rules through technology-driven monitoring.
According to SSP Operations Amir Mushtaq, the e-challan system uses high-tech surveillance cameras and automated monitoring tools to detect violations, including riding without a helmet, driving against traffic, overloading motorcycles with more than three passengers, and other unlawful road practices. Once recorded, challans are automatically issued and sent directly to the registered vehicle owners.
“The objective of this system is to promote a culture of responsible driving while reducing road accidents in Sargodha,” said the SSP. He added that the introduction of technology makes traffic enforcement more transparent, efficient, and consistent compared to manual checks.
Authorities believe the system will discourage reckless driving and instill greater discipline among motorists. Officials also highlighted that the e-challan is part of a broader digital policing initiative under the Safe City Project, aimed at reducing human intervention, ensuring fairness, and enhancing overall urban safety.
This move follows the successful adoption of e-challan systems in other major cities of Punjab, bringing Sargodha in line with the province’s efforts to embrace smart traffic solutions and digital governance.
