Easypaisa CEO Highlights Role of Digital Banking in Pakistan

Jahanzeb Khan, President & CEO of Easypaisa Digital Bank, has said that insight-based digital innovation can play a major role in achieving financial inclusion in Pakistan.

He shared these views at the Money20/20 Middle East conference in Riyadh, held from September 15–17, 2025.

Financial Inclusion in Pakistan

Currently, over 60% of Pakistan’s population has access to financial services, but millions remain unbanked.

Easypaisa, Pakistan’s first digital retail bank, has been working to bring financial services to underserved communities. With over 2.7 billion transactions in 2024 worth PKR 9.5 trillion, Easypaisa now represents around 9% of Pakistan’s GDP.

Easypaisa’s Vision

According to Jahanzeb Khan, the company’s goal is to become a gateway for financial inclusion.

He explained that Easypaisa aims to serve:

Families receiving remittances from abroad.

Small businesses handling international transactions.

Freelancers and youth working with global clients.

By offering faster and cheaper cross-border payments, Easypaisa hopes to strengthen Pakistan’s economy.

Support from Government and State Bank

Khan also praised the efforts of the Government of Pakistan and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in promoting a cashless economy.

He assured that Easypaisa will continue supporting these reforms by providing secure, affordable, and accessible services for all citizens.

Technology and Global Partnerships

At the event, experts discussed how digital tools like AI-driven services, eKYC, and Mobile Platform-as-a-Service (mPaaS) can improve access to banking.

Easypaisa is also working with Ant International, combining global expertise with local insights to design better financial solutions for Pakistanis.

Easypaisa’s journey reflects how local innovation, combined with global collaboration, can transform Pakistan’s financial sector.

The bank has already reached one in every five Pakistanis, including 31% women users, showing that digital banking can empower communities across the country.
