Pakistan Hands Over Islamabad Airport Operations to UAE for Improved Management
The federal government of Pakistan has officially decided to hand over the operations of Islamabad International Airport to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an effort to improve efficiency and service standards.
The decision was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Inter-Governmental Commercial Transactions (CCIGCT), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. According to officials, the agreement will be finalized under a government-to-government (G2G) framework.
This step comes as part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to attract foreign partners for managing key state-run assets and modernizing infrastructure across the country.
Islamabad International Airport, inaugurated in 2018, has faced continuous operational and financial challenges over the years. By outsourcing management to the UAE, the government aims to ensure better facilities, smoother operations, and an overall improved passenger experience.
Officials believe the move will not only boost efficiency but also bring much-needed expertise to Pakistan’s aviation sector.
