Mohsin Naqvi Refuses India’s Request for Asia Cup Trophy

The Asia Cup 2025 is still making headlines, even weeks after its conclusion. The latest controversy unfolded in Dubai, where Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi firmly turned down India’s demand to hand over the Asia Cup trophy.

India Refused Trophy Presentation

India won the 2025 Asia Cup but created drama during the presentation. The players refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. In response, Naqvi removed the trophy from the stage — a rare and historic move in cricket tournaments.

Heated ACC Meeting

The issue resurfaced in the recent ACC meeting. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla demanded that the trophy be sent to India. However, Mohsin Naqvi dismissed the request, saying the matter was not on the agenda.

He even remarked that if India truly wanted the trophy, their captain should visit the ACC headquarters in person to collect it. This angered the Indian delegation, who joined the meeting virtually. Reports suggest that BCCI officials abruptly left the meeting after their proposal to send the trophy to ICC headquarters was also rejected.

Cricket Rivalry Beyond the Field

This standoff adds another chapter to the long-standing Pakistan–India cricket rivalry. The Asia Cup 2025 had already been controversial — from players refusing handshakes to politically charged gestures. Now, the trophy dispute has made it one of the most dramatic tournaments in recent history.

For now, the Asia Cup trophy remains in ACC custody, with no clear decision on whether it will be handed to India.
