Salman Ali Agha Warns Pakistan Cricket to Change or Face Hockey-Like Decline

Pakistan’s T20 captain, Salman Ali Agha, has given a strong message to the cricket board and fans. He believes Pakistan cricket must adopt modern, high-intent cricket or risk the same downfall that happened to Pakistan hockey.

---

Modern Cricket Needed in Pakistan

Salman Ali Agha said that the world has already moved towards fearless and aggressive cricket. Teams play with high risk and clear intent, especially in T20 matches. He added that Pakistan is late in adapting and must act fast.

According to him, the new style should focus on:

Aggressive batting in the powerplay.

Boundary-hitting in the middle overs.

Selecting players with defined roles.

Playing with confidence even if it comes with some risk.

---

Support from Management

The Pakistan team management is backing this plan. They want to:

Build a bigger pool of T20 players.

Give consistent opportunities to attacking players.

Keep T20 cricket separate from Test and ODI strategies.

This means selections and tactics will now be designed specifically for short-format cricket.

Hockey Example as a Warning

Salman Ali Agha gave the example of Pakistan hockey, once a world champion team that lost its glory. He warned that if cricket does not adapt quickly, it may also face the same fate.

Asia Cup 2025 – First Test for Pakistan

Pakistan will test this new aggressive style in the Asia Cup 2025. The team will face Oman on 12 September in Dubai, followed by the big match against India on 14 September.

These games will be the first chance to see if Salman Ali Agha’s ideas can bring a new era in Pakistan cricket before the T20 World Cup 2025.
