Pakistan to Push IMF for Maximum Relief in Upcoming Talks

The Government of Pakistan is preparing for important discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to secure the maximum possible relief for the country.

No Mini-Budget Planned

According to sources, the government does not want to introduce a mini-budget. Instead, it will suggest stronger enforcement of existing tax rules rather than adding new taxes.

Relief for Flood Victims

Officials will request the IMF to consider the damages caused by recent floods. Proposals include:

Relief in electricity bills for September.

Relaxation in agriculture loan repayments.

Support for communities heavily affected by floods.

Lower Tax Targets

The government will also ask for a downward revision of FBR’s tax collection target. The Finance Ministry plans to explain how floods have reduced overall revenue collection.

Growth Target Adjustment

Discussions may also include the option to slightly lower Pakistan’s economic growth target due to the financial impact of natural disasters.

No New Taxes

The government will try to ensure that no additional taxes are imposed. At the same time, it will brief the IMF about the rising federal expenses caused by flood-related damages.

📌 Conclusion

Pakistan is looking to secure relief that protects citizens from new taxes while providing urgent help for flood-affected areas. The outcome of these talks will play a key role in the country’s economic direction.
