Punjab PDMA Confirms End of Monsoon Season After Weeks of Floods

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced that the 2025 monsoon season is officially over. This comes after weeks of heavy rainfall and destructive floods that displaced millions across Punjab.

Flood Risk Over, Rivers Returning to Normal

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that water levels in rivers are now going down. He also confirmed that no heavy rainfall is expected in the coming week.

“The risk of large-scale flooding has ended, and all breach points have been repaired,” he told media in Lahore.

Sutlej River Still Elevated

According to officials, the Sutlej River’s water flow is still higher than other rivers but has been dropping steadily for the last two days.

Flood Impact in Punjab

The PDMA shared that the 2025 floods hit villages in 28 districts, affecting nearly five million people. At least 123 people lost their lives, with southern Punjab suffering the worst damage.

Relief and Rehabilitation Work

Authorities confirmed that relief and recovery operations are still underway in the most affected areas. Kathia added that Sindh avoided serious damage once the peak floodwaters passed through Punjab.

Hope for Recovery

The official end of the monsoon brings much-needed relief, but experts warn that rehabilitation will take months for displaced families to return to normal life.

📌 Conclusion

The end of the 2025 monsoon season is a positive development for Punjab, but rebuilding communities will take time. Authorities continue to work on relief and long-term rehabilitation for millions affected by the floods.
