Afghanistan’s star all-rounder and captain, Rashid Khan, has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the highest wicket-taker in T20 Internationals. The record was achieved in the third match of the tri-nation series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sharjah, where Rashid delivered a match-winning spell of 3 wickets for 21 runs.
The 26-year-old spinner reached 165 wickets in just 98 matches, surpassing New Zealand’s Tim Southee, who had 164 wickets in 126 games. Rashid first equaled Southee’s tally during the match before going on to set the new world record.
Afghanistan, batting first, set a target of 189 runs. In response, UAE managed to score 150 for 8 in their 20 overs, handing Afghanistan a 38-run victory. UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem top-scored with 67 runs, supported by Rahul Chopra’s 52, but their efforts fell short. Alongside Rashid, Sharafuddin Ashraf also took three wickets to seal the win.
With this victory, Afghanistan continued their strong run in the series and are now set to face Pakistan in the fourth match of the tri-series.
