🏏 Sana Mir Hits Back at Unfair Criticism

Former Pakistan women’s cricket captain and current commentator Sana Mir has strongly responded to recent backlash against her commentary. She called the campaign from Indian media “unfortunate and unnecessary.”

🎙️ The Controversy

The issue started when Sana Mir mentioned Natalia Pervaiz’s hometown in Azad Kashmir during the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup.

Indian media outlets quickly politicized the remark, sparking a social media campaign urging the ICC to remove her from commentary duties.

Interestingly, CricInfo also changed Natalia’s profile, shifting her birthplace from “Azad Jammu and Kashmir” to “Pakistan-administered Kashmir.”

🗣️ Sana Mir’s Clarification

In a statement, Sana Mir explained that her intention was to highlight the player’s background and struggles.

“As commentators, we share stories about where players come from and their journeys. I also mentioned two other regions, but only this was politicized,” she said.

She stressed that she holds no ill will towards anyone and only spoke in good faith.

🏆 A Respected Voice in Cricket

Sana Mir, now 39, is an ICC Hall of Fame inductee and one of Pakistan’s most successful women cricketers. Since retiring, she has become a respected figure in cricket broadcasting.

She urged fans to keep sports free from political narratives, saying that cricket should remain a source of unity, not division.
